Re: Revision of Eastern Michigan UniversityÕs Chemistry Major
Currently all candidates in our Chemistry Major for Secondary Teachers requires the physical science methods course (PHY 325). The Chemistry Department now has created a new course to address teaching methodology applicable to secondary chemistry, CHEM 325, (Methodology for Secondary Chemistry Teachers). This course will not only strengthens the preparation of candidates but will also meet the American Chemical Society guidelines for preparation of chemistry teachers.
The proposed change will be to allow candidates in the Chemistry program to take either CHEM 325 or PHY 325 to fulfill the teaching methods requirement.
Eastern Michigan University has approved this change to the major and looks forward to the approval of Michigan Department of Education.
