Eastern Michigan University offers only K-12 teacher certification in Japanese. All students seeking teacher certification in Japanese must complete the following requirements, resulting in a teaching MAJOR in Japanese language and culture. |
Eastern Michigan University does not offer a Secondary minor or a secondary major in Japanese. |
Group I Required Language Development Courses Students seeking a major in Japanese as part of a K-12 teaching certificate must complete the following six required courses (18 credits).

Group II Required Literature Course Students seeking a major in Japanese as part of a K-12 teaching certificate must complete the following required literary survey course (3 credits).

Group III: Restricted Civilization and Culture Courses Students seeking a major in Japanese as part of a K-12 teaching certificate must complete one of the following culture and civilization courses (3 credits).

Group IV: Required Immersion Experience Students seeking a major in Japanese as part of a K-12 teaching certificate must complete an approved 6-credit cultural and linguistic immersion experience of at least one semester in duration.

Group V: Required Capstone Seminar Students seeking K-12 certification in Japanese must complete the following required capstone course (3 credits).
