schools, died recently in Royal
Oak. He also
taught driver education.
Marsha
Barker Crosby ‘73 and Joel
Smith ‘90 have been selected
for induction into the E-Club
Hall of Fame. Crosby distinguished herself
during
her EMU years in basketball,
volleyball, and softball. She went on
to a career
as an elementary physical
education teacher. Smith was a distinguished
wrestler during
his EMU years.

Willard ‘Peck’ Curtis,
age 91, died recently. He spent his
career
with Stein and Goetz Sporting
Goods and with the Washtenaw County
Road Commission.
The Office for Alumni
Relations is currently accepting nominations
for the 43rd Annual Alumni Awards.
There are four award categories: Outstanding
Young Alumnus/Alumna; Alumnus/Alumna
Achieve-ment; Distinguished Alumnus/Alumna;
and the Dr. John W. Porter Distinguished
Service Award. The deadline for nominations
is January 16. Awards will be presented
at a dinner ceremony May 8, at the
Ypsilanti Marriott at Eagle Crest.

Barbara
Balbach ‘66 was
featured
recently in the Ann Arbor News. Balbach
is a former
president
of the Ann Arbor Thrift Shop and
still a major volunteer
at the agency.
She is also involved in many other
community organizations.
Her degrees
are in special education.
Tom
Wall ‘71, ‘73, ‘76,
retired special education
teacher in the Willow Run schools
and
current operator
of a driver education school, was
named a
Finalist in the annual
Ann Arbor News ‘Citizen of
the Year’ competition.
Among many other
civic contributions,
he is the prime organizer of
the annual T-Wall
B-Ball/The Carnival
for Special Athletes
event held every
October.
George
A. Rose ‘73 is president
and CEO of The Portsmouth
Group, Inc. in Washington,
D.C. This
organization has
recently launched an innovative
Internet navigation
tool that provides
an on-line safety net of health
and human
services and assistive
programs. This is known as ‘iSafetyNet.US.’
Cynthia
L. Warger ‘75 is
principal of Warger,
Eavy & Associates,
a communications
firm in Reston, VA
that specializes in education
print and media.
She has taught at
both the K-12
and university
levels and is a past
president of the
International Council
for Children with
Behavior Disorders.
While editor of Teaching Exceptional
Children, she won
national EdPress
awards. She
is a co-author of
several books and
videos, including
ones on safe schools and working
with children with
emotional and behavioral
challenges.

Lynn ‘78 describes his
company (located
in Inkster) and himself on the

site in this way: ‘Simtech
Publications is a
very small company. In fact,
if Bill quits
we have no company
left at all. We shouldn't even
be using the
word ‘we’ but it
makes us sound big
and important. By day, Bill (that's
me) is a
mild-mannered Speech
Language Pathologist working
in the field
of Assistive Technology.’ Simtech
produces educational
materials for young
children.
Jeffrey
Morgan ‘82 is superintendent
of the Kearsley schools.
Kearsley, with two other districts,
has
a ‘Consortium for Professional
Development.’ This project
won one of the ‘Michigan’s
Best’ Education Excellence
awards made by the
Michigan Association
of School Boards, which carried
a $1,000 prize.
