Joe
Rossi ‘69, ‘73, ‘88,
principal of Saline High School, has been
named to a one-year assignment as the district’s director of
operations, substantially involved with overseeing the new high
school
building project. Jean Britton ‘80 will serve as the principal for
the
year. Nancy Brenton ‘74, ‘81 is now Saline’s assistant
superintendent
for human resources.
Greg
J. Slagon ‘72, ‘73 of Orchard Lake, is the owner of G.J. Slagon &
Associates, a property management firm in Sylvan Lake.
Paul
J. Delorey ‘73 became president of JanSport, the Wisconsin firm
well known for back packs, book bags, etc., in 1988. Formerly
with J.
C Penny, Delorey brought a philosophy of ‘putting people first’ to
the
JanSport presidency. During his time in that office, he stepped
up
initiatives involving child care and support for good causes
ranging
from environmental preservation and support of the National Park
Service to the battles against breast cancer and other diseases.
He
also involved JanSport in numerous philanthropic undertakings.
I-Xing
(Cinthia) Lee ‘99 will begin her doctoral studies in special
education at the University of Washington this fall.
Her master’s is
from EMU in learning disabilities. She will stop at EMU early
in
September en route from her native Taiwan to the University of
Washington.

Angelo
Pecora of Dexter was featured recently in the Ann Arbor
News.
Pecora, who earned a degree in American literature from
EMU 'with every
intention of becoming a teacher,' never got there. Instead,
he has
spent 32 years in feed and grain; making custom saddles, gun
belts, and
holsters; riding his mule; and participating in Civil War
and 'old
west' historical re-enactments.
Leah
Grubaugh, age 99, died recently in Chelsea. She received her
teaching certificate through The Normal in the 1920's. She began
her
career in area country schools and then taught in the Dexter
schools
until her retirement.
Phyllis
Margaret Savage '48, died recently in Dearborn. She taught
physical education at Dearborn High School from 1948 until her
retirement in 1972.

E. Hagel ‘78 is the superintendent of the Shiawassee
Regional
Service District in Corunna, MI.
Pat
Messing ‘83
is leaving her position as principal of Hillcrest
Elementary School in the Crestwood District to become principal
of
Winchester Elementary School in Northville. She has worked in
the
Crestwood District for 28 years, teaching at Kinloch and Highview
Elementary schools and at Riverside Middle School. She also served
as
a counselor at Riverside.
Maurice
Pope,
the first completer of EMU’s Urban Teacher Program
in
Detroit, currently principal of the Detroit Academy for the Arts,
has
completed his studies and defended his dissertation for the Ed.D.
at
Wayne State University. Cynthia Overton, also from the first
cohort in
the Urban Teacher Program, is ABD at the University of Michigan.
