Advanced Programs Committee
Minutes of Meeting on 1-10-06
Present: Ginnie Harder, OAS; Rob Carpenter, TED; Karen Schulte, SPED; Loreena Parks, SPED; Sue Stickel, COUN; Ann Remp, CTWE; Brenda Riemer, HPHP; Melanie Buffington, Art Ed.; and a member of TED
The meeting was called to order by Co-Chairs, Karen Schulte and Loreena Parks
The minutes of the meeting October 25, 2005 were accepted
A new course Proposal: TEDU 520 Technology Education for Teachers was presented. The course has been taught as a special topic. .
It was moved and seconded to approve the course as presented
The motion passed.
Ginnie Harder presented issues for consideration concerning the conceptual frameworks for the advanced and initial programs in the College of Education. She presented a matrix for discussion that provided a basis for consideration of whether or not the advanced programs could agree that the statement: “Caring professional educators for a diverse and democratic society” would incorporate the separate statement currently being used by advanced programs: Inquiry, advocacy and leadership in education for a diverse and democratic society”.
Members of the committee will solicit their programs for feedback and discussion will continue at the March meeting of advanced programs committee.
Dr. Harder also discussed assessment issues relevant to NCATE. Programs will need to consider possible areas of commonality that could be assessed across all program areas. A matrix was presented.
Members of the committee will again go back to program areas for feedback.
The meeting was adjourned. The next meeting would be held on January 24, if needed.
