We need to be clear about the distinction between “conceptual framework” and “knowledge base” as terms.  The knowledge base seems to be a subset of a conceptual framework, but using the terms somewhat interchangeably could lead to confusion.

The M.A. in Math Education proposal was reviewed and the draft of the memo was discussed.  Dr. Caniglia will be invited to the next meeting in order to respond to the concerns raised.

The sample grid of alignment of standards from Wayne State was examined.  It looks good and we might want to adopt something like it that encompasses all of the professional organization standards as well as NCATE, NBPTS, state, etc. standards.  We probably can leave off the state of the union and Goals 2000 columns.  This led to further discussion of the relationship between NCATE and non-NCATE programs and degrees and the need for everyone to be involved in this conversation.  We need to follow up on the discussion of combining the Advanced Programs and Professional and Affiliated Programs committees into one in order to facilitate the creation of a conceptual framework that would be responsive to everyone.

The next meeting will be at Tuesday April 18th.

Respectfully submitted,

Kaia Skaggs, Secretary
