Minutes from the March meeting were approved. The membership list was reviewed. The committee still needs a representative from Music Education. Coyner will check into the representation from speech pathology. Finch will clarify with the Dean the issue of representation on the committee as an advanced program (i.e. master's or endorsement area).
No
curricular items needed action/approval. Finch reported that a new Reading
Master's program is in development and may need review during the spring/summer
terms. Jackie Tracy will serve as the interim chair for spring term and Judy
Williston will serve as the chair for summer term. Jackie or Judy will convene
a meeting if necessary.
Finch
lead a discussion of progress of program areas' conceptual frameworks and
literature searches. Finch reviewed the conceptual framework outline.
· Reading - currently developing new master's program. The new courses will determine the conceptual framework. Literature review has been extensive.

Special Education -
revision of programs in progress based on standards for each area.
·
School Counseling -
review of literature and conceptual framework complete according to standards.
·
Educational Leadership -
Ron Williamson will head up in the Fall.
·
Curriculum - elementary,
middle and secondary programs in review.
·
Music Education -
waiting for new department head.
·
Art Education - graduate
assistant working on review of the literature.
·
ECE- Judy shared a
handout (attached) of conceptual framework draft. A lengthy discussion of
dispositions followed.
No
future meeting date was set.

In
addition, the early childhood education (M.A.) program addresses the extensive
knowledge of how to develop and implement age appropriate, culturally
appropriate, and individually appropriate curriculum and teaching practices
from birth through age eight.
Goals
of the Program:
Early
childhood education is a recognized profession with a body of core knowledge to
be mastered and applied by its practitioners.
Content
Knowledge:
To give students a knowledge-base of theories of human and socio-cultural development and learning through the life span.
To provide students with research information on social, emotional, cognitive, language, aesthetic, motor, and perceptual development in children from birth through age 8, including children with special needs.
Pedagogical
Content Knowledge:
To provide students with information about early childhood curriculum and instruction and alternative teaching models and methodologies.
To
help students critically examine alternative perspectives regarding central
issues in the field.
To
assist students in evaluating programs for children from diverse cultural and
language backgrounds, as well as children of different age and developmental
levels.
Professional
Dispositions:
To
give students the opportunity to learn about patterns of behavior that are
related to effective teaching (intentional behaviors, such as reflection,
curiosity, creativity, affability, and responsiveness).
To
help students develop and practice the dispositions necessary to establish a
classroom environment that stimulates critical inquiry.

To
help students develop a belief system that includes principles of human growth
