Minutes of Meeting on 3-19-02

 

 

Present: Diane Winder, Music; Sue Stickel, CSAP; Jennifer Hoffman (GA), Art; Chris Bocklage, Art; H.A. Hasan, SPECED; Judy Williston, TED; Lisa Frankes, TED, Ron Williamson, EDLD, Ron Fulkert, BTE

 

The meeting was called to order by Lisa Frankes, Co-Chair

Minutes from 2-19-02 were approved.

Pat Williams-Boyd, TED presented proposed changes to the Master of Arts Program in Middle Level Education.  The program changes reflect the standards of the National Middle School Association and the Michigan State Department of Education.

It was moved and seconded to approve the proposed changes.

The motion was passed.

Jon Margerum-Leys, EDMT, presented changes in the Master of Arts Program in Educational Media and Technology.  The purpose of the restructuring of the program is to prepare the program for state approval as a degree program.  Standards from the International Society for Technology in Education, NCATE, and Michigan State Department of Education were used to guide the program changes.

It was moved and seconded to approve the proposed changes.

The motion was passed.

Judy Williston presented changes to the Masters of Arts program in Early Childhood Education.

It was moved and seconded to approve the proposed changes.

The motion was passed.

Committee members had completed the review of the revised Masters Program in Reading.

The revision was approved.

Committee members had completed the review of the changes in the Leadership and Counseling programs.

The proposed changes were approved.Chris Bocklage presented draft materials for the Art Education Program.

In discussion of departmental views regarding a shared conceptual framework for advanced programs the committee:

Expressed support for a "unit wide" conceptual framework and requests information concerning the next steps for operationalizing such a framework

Request information regarding the NCATE formats for vita and syllabi

The next meeting will be April 16
