Minutes of Meeting on 2-19-02

The meeting was called to order by Judy Williston, Co-Chair

Minutes from 1-15-02were approved.

Lisa Frankes presented an informational memo from Dean Robbins concerning questions about presenting programs in the process of changing. This is in relation to the forthcoming NCATE/State visit.

Jane Gordon presented an overview of the new program of study in reading leading to a Master's in Reading and the Reading Specialist endorsement on a teaching certificate. The program will begin in the fall of 2002. This program revision was based on standards set by the International Reading Association and the Michigan Department of Education Language Arts Standards.

Alane Starko presented draft materials concerning the Teacher Education conceptual framework. The goal in teacher education was to have a shared conceptual framework across all programs in teacher education. This framework may work for other programs. Members of APC are asked to bring reactions from their programs/departments to the next meeting.

Jackie Tracy presented an overview of changes needing approval in the leadership and counseling programs. These changes are the result of revisions in both programs. Dr. Tracy is available for any questions relative to these changes.

Members of APC are to review program changes on or before March 12. Notebooks for the reviews are available in the Deans Office, 310 Porter and in 206 Porter.

The next meeting will be March 19
