Minutes

April 11, 2002

Call to order: 3:08 PM

 

Old Business:

 

1.      Motion to approve minutes of March 28, 2002 was passed unanimously.

 

New Business:

 

1.  Review of English NCATE materials.  Dr. Sipes from English presented.

Motion to commend English for preparation of materials passed unanimously.

 

2.      Review of Computer Science NCATE materials.  Dr. Moore from Computer Sciences presented.  Feedback:

-          In matrices of standards student assignments are separated from course objectives.  This may confuse the NCATE reviewers.

-          In section 3.2.1- add pre-student teaching experiences in order to link pre-field work to work in student teaching.

-          In section 1.2- add what students are learning in Teaching Major to items listed in section.

Motion to commend Computer Science for efforts and to forward comments was passed unanimously.

 

3.      Review of Elementary Education NCATE materials.  Dr. Langer presented.

-          Motion to commend Elementary Education for preparation of materials passed unanimously.

 

4.      Review of Geography NCATE materials.  Feedback:

-          How are Test Evidence and Performance Evidence interpreted?

-          Performance evidence needs more content, how are students assessed relative to their understanding of the content of Geography?  Same question under Test Evidence. There may be multiple sources of information for each area of evidence.

-          Document needs more pieces of evidence as specified in the manual of the National Council for Social Studies.

Motion to commend Geography for efforts and to forward comments was passed unanimously.

 

5.      Committee members were polled to determine if a quorum would be present for meeting on April 25.  Meeting will be held at regularly scheduled time and place.
