i. Committee on Basic Programs –
A. The COE Council approved the following courses in HPERD:
- SPMD 296, SPMD 310, SPMD 380, SPMD 295, SPMD 390, SPMD 421, SPMD485
- DANCE 104, DANCE 105, DANCE 108, DANCE 109, DANCE 110, DANCE 111
- HLED 130, HLED 375, HLED 380, HLED 480, HLED 481, HLED 482
- PEGN 180
B. The COE Council approved the following revisions in the political science-teaching major:
- Change requirement to both PLSC 210 and PLSC 202
- Change to “six courses from the three groups below, including at least one course from each group…18…”
- Delete PLSC 202 from Group I courses, and add PLSC 310 to the Group III courses
ii. Committee on Advanced Programs – No Report
iii. Professional and Affiliated Programs Committee –
A. The COE Council voted 0 (yes) – 11 (no) – 0 (abstain) toward approval of new courses INDT 441 “Foreign and Domestic Terrorism” and INDT 529 “Foreign and Domestic Terrorism.” Questions arose regarding course requirements, lack of domestic terrorism references in the reference list, and what was meant by “exposed to weapons of mass destruction” in the INDT 441 course description. The Council is willing to reconsider its vote if representatives from Interdisciplinary Technology come to a future meeting to answer questions.
B. The COE Council voted 0 (yes) – 11 (no) – 0 (abstain) toward approval of new workshops INDT 515 “Energy Educators Workshop I” and INDT 516 “Energy Educators Workshop II.” The Council will invite INDT representatives to come and discuss concerns that were raised.
C. The COE Council asked J. Robbins to inform the Professional and Affiliated Programs Committee that all programs, courses, etc. traditionally sent to their committee will be diverted to the COE Council during the Spring/Summer session.
D. The COE Council approved the new course ENGL 444 “Writing for the World Wide Web.”
E. The COE Council approved the new courses PLSC 343/344 “Model United Nations.”
F. The COE Council approved a new minor in Geographic Information Systems.
G. The COE Council approved the new course LAW 540 “Employment Law” with a strong recommendation to delete the specific acts from the catalog description.

R. Dean's Report – E. Hoffman reported that that initial approval has been given for the Ed. Tech endorsement. J. Robbins reported that the Provost has encouraged all departments across the campus to create efficiencies to alleviate budget concerns. Recommendations from the Provost include: larger class sizes, less release time, and administrators teaching mainstream courses. Each college will be given X number of dollars for faculty. The COE will give each department latitude to make its own decisions as to how the money will be spent.
The Provost accepted the first proposal submitted by J. Robbins ($180,000 from Spring/Summer) as an alternative to cutting COE support staff.

Old Business
–
- EDLD 601 remained tabled until further clarification.
- LAW 511 and LAW 411 were removed from being tabled, and subsequently voted 0 (yes) – 10 (no) – 0 (abstain) toward approval. These courses were voted down due to an overlap with courses offered through HPERD. Representatives from the business school will be encouraged to contact Ian Haslam to discuss this matter further.
