MINUTES OF MEETING

 

Attendance:  J. Robbins (COE);  C. Karshin (HPERD); E. Hoffman (TED); L. Rocklage (SPED); S. McCarthy (HPERD); M. Kinney-Sedgwick (TED); N. Copeland (TED); L. Stevens (SPED); A. Starko (TED)

 

1.      Call to Order - The meeting was called to order at 2:05 pm by Martha Kinney-Sedgwick, Chair pro tem. 

2.      Teleconference with WMU – Officials from Western Michigan University provided an outline of their current professional education governance structure.  The structure consists of an Executive Board, and Professional Education Board.  The Professional Education Board has 4 sub-committees: (1) Curriculum Committee (made up of 7 members that meets approximately 3 times a year), (2) Admission/Retention/Diversity Committee (3) Field Experience/Quality Assurance Committee, and (4) Faculty Development Committee.  The Professional Education Board consists of approximately 30 members.  Members consider issues, provide input, and make recommendations to the Executive Committee.  

3.      Approval of the Minutes – The minutes of the May 12, 2004 meeting were approved as distributed.       

4.      Reports of Committees

1.      The Council voted to approve the following:

a.       New course IS 350 Enterprise Resource Planning

b.      Change in title and course description for IS 247 Software Design and Programming in Business

c.       Change in title and course description for IS 315 Applied Data Structures

d.      Change in title and course description for IS 410 Knowledge-Based Systems

e.       Change in title, course description and prerequisites for IS 416 Computer Operating Systems

f.        Change in prerequisites for IS 417 System Analysis and Design

g.       Change in course number for IS 420 Data Communications and Computer Networks

h.       Change in title and prerequisites for IS 421 Advanced Database

i.         Change in title and description for IS 425 Software Engineering Management

j.        Change in title, description, and prerequisites for IS 499 Information Systems Development and Implementation Projects

5.   Old Business – A discussion was had comparing WMU, CMU, and EMU’s professional education governance structures.  The recommendation of the Council was to adopt a plan for change over time.  A collaborative breakfast for professional education faculty was proposed that would begin a dialog leading to changes within the governance structure that are in the best interest of the students.  

6.   Adjournment - The meeting was adjourned at 3:45 p.m.
