Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 2:05 pm by M. Kinney-Sedgwick with the establishment of a quorum.

- Basic Programs Committee:
- New Course: SPGN 395. P. Smith spoke about this course. The course was approved.
- New program: Physical Science for Secondary teachers. Tabled from last meeting for further information. Jim Carroll, Dept. of Astronomy, spoke about the program. It was approved.
- Advanced Programs Committee:

- SPEI 694
All courses were approved as they are the re-sequenced courses in the graduate program in Special education, with all changes resulting in the same amount of credits as before.
- Professional and Affiliated Programs Committee:
- CRTW 526, 528, 529. Approved unanimously.
- Personnel Committee – No report.
- Planning and Finance Committee – No report
- Diversity Committee – The committee is sponsoring a program for Martin Luther King Day Celebration 2006. It is a Town hall meeting, entitled, “Speaking of Justice” and will take place on Thursday, January 12th, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in Porter 202 (D. Choudhuri).

- ad hoc Porter Chair Advisory Committee – The next speaker will be Dr. James Earl Davis on January 26-27. J. Tracy reported that based on conversations with the dean, it may move to a schedule of a Chair every other year. There is a possible donation from the Kellogg Foundation, together with African American Studies for a lecture series, so there will not be a gap, and having the chair every other year allows more available funds for the Chair top spend more time on campus.

- COE Departments or Offices:
- A concern was expressed from teacher Education and supported by Special Education about the posting of ads by Human resources which has been found to lead to delayed or lost applications.
- There was a concern about the updating of technology for classroom use by Teacher Education.
- Porter Building status – M. Bretting reported that Porter 214 would be made into a smart classroom with the assistance of a gift of $25,000 from Dean Rockwell. The Memorial garden is also on track for spring 2006.
- NCATE/State status – No report
- Dean’s report – Has been in meetings with Kellogg Foundation representatives regarding a proposal for Urban Education with projects for minority men. Also there is a good reception for the proposals submitted for the Federal earmarks.
