1. Where do I purchase my LiveText subscription?
Purchasing your LiveText subscription is a two-part process.
- Purchase your LiveText Keycode at EMU. More information on this process is available by viewing our Getting your LiveText Keycode web page (link at the bottom of this page).
- Go on to the LiveText web site, and, using your EMU LiveText Keycode, create your LiveText account. More information on this process is available by viewing our Registering for LiveText web page.
2. When do I purchase my LiveText Keycode and set up my LiveText account?
Not all classes will be using LiveText. Please wait for information to come to you from your course instructor. If LiveText is not required, you do not need to purchase a Keycode at this time.
3. How much does LiveText cost?
The EMU College of Education is selling LiveText Keycodes at a discount from the normal price. Where a bookstore, or even the LiveText web site, is charging $89 for the basic version, the EMU College of Education is only charging $66.75. Your account is good for five years, or, until one year past graduation, whichever comes first. After that, LiveText offers continuing subscriptions by direct purchase.
4. Will I have to purchase my LiveText subscription each semester?
No! Your LiveText subscription is good for five years from the date of purchase, or until one year following your graduation, whichever comes first. You will be able to continue using it during that time. If you have finished your education at EMU, you will still have access to your account, for use as a digital portfolio of your work, to use in your K-12 classroom as a teaching and learning tool, or to use in your pursuit of graduate work. After your initial subscription runs out, you will have the option of renewing, directly from LiveText.
5. How do I pay for my LiveText account?
When you click the link at the bottom of the page, you will be taken to a secure EMU web page which will require you to use your EMU my.emich login name and password. Once you sign in, you will need to decide which version of LiveText you wish to purchase. Upon making your selection, and agreeing to the charge, your purchase amount of $66.75 will appear on your Student Account. You will then pay your Student Bill as normal.
At this point, you will then have your LiveText Keycode; a unique access code that can only be used one time, for creating your account on the LiveText web site.
6. How do I create my LiveText account?
You must have first acquired your EMU LiveText Keycode, by following the steps above. If you purchase your LiveText Keycode directly from LiveText, it will cost the full amount of $89.
Next, you would follow the instructions on our LiveText registration page.
7. If I stop going to school for a semester or two, can I get a refund on my LiveText charges?
Your LiveText account is good for five years from the date of purchase, or until one year after graduation, and you do not have to be actively enrolled in classes in order to use the account. So no, you’re not eligible for a refund of any unused portion of your LiveText charges. Let’s hope that any break you take from your scholarly activities is short, and you hurry back to finish within those five years!
8. Ready to start?
Click here for directions on purchasing your LiveText Keycode. When you are done, you can then go on to the next step, Registering your LiveText account.
9. What if I forget my LiveText Keycode?
Simply log back into the EMU Student LiveText Keycode web page, using your my.emich name and password, and you can retrieve your LiveText Keycode.
10. What are the computer requirements for using LiveText?
The requirements are fairly modest, and can be found in detail, at the LiveText web site, by clicking here. In general though, most relatively recent computers with an internet connection will work fine. LiveText recommends the use of the Firefox web browser, which is available for free, by clicking here.
11. I have my account, but I can not see the document in my LiveText Inbox that my instructor said would be there. What should I do?
If you do not see an assignment in your LiveText Inbox, which your instructor said should be there, please e-mail your instructor, providing her/him with your name and your LiveText login name (NOT your LiveText password), and ask her/him to "Share" the appropriate document with you. It should appear in your LiveText Inbox, after that.
If your instructor said you should use a document template, you can find that template by following these directions.
12. Where can I go for more help?
If you feel you need help with basic LiveText processes: document creation, submitting an assignment for review, attaching a file to a document, uploading video, etc., then you can visit the Bonisteel Computer Lab, 205 Porter Building, for assistance. Please be aware the Bonisteel Lab staff can not help with specific assignment requirements or with clarifications to your syllabus. Those types of questions should be directed to your instructor.
