EMU WORKS WITH INKSTER SCHOOLS
Last spring, Inkster school officials, EMU personnel, parents, and community members attended a production of "Building Your Child's Self Esteem." This play, produced and written by parents of Inkster students, marked the culmination of the first year of a three-year collaboration between the Inkster Public Schools and the EMU Collaborative School Improvement Program (C-SIP). Barden Cable Vision recorded the play for viewing on its public access station.
This collaborative venture is a part of the district and EMU C-SIP project. Four parent-based groups have joined together under one umbrella to improve the involvement of parents in the Inkster schools.
"It's phenomenal," said district representative Paula Daniels. "The once splintered groups have joined hands to make a collective impact on the schools," she added. The coordinating council consists of the PTA presidents from each of the schools and representatives from the school boosters organizations, Chapter I, and special needs programs.
With assistance from EMU facilitator Nora Martin, the coordinating council of parents has selected to focus on improving the self-esteem of children. One parent information meeting and two parent training seminars were organized by the council. The first seminar taught parents how to build children's self-esteem in order to help them do better in school. The second seminar provided 25 ways for parents to motivate their children to do better in school.

Presently, two EMU students are interning in Lansing under this program. Applications are due January 28.
