OPPORTUNITIES FOR PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES AND RECOGNITIONS
Biff Rosalik, active in a number of local-area mental health for children organizations and activities, is interested in partnership arrangements with EMU entities. Of special interest is a respite program for parents with seriously mentally ill children. Interested parties may call Rosalik at the Huron Valley Child Guidance Clinic, 434-1150.
Ameritech SuperSchool exhibit of technology for K-12 schools and professional education will be held in the Cobo Center Ballroom March 9, with EMU faculty invited for the period between 2-4 p.m. If planning to attend, or for further information, call Susan Jugan at 313-262-6745.
The ATE Summer Workshop will be held at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh on August 1-4 on the theme "Education: A Community Enterprise." Proposals are sought for conference sessions, with a deadline for submission of March 15, 1993. Additional information is available in each department office or from Cheri Quinn, 717-245-1872.
Nominations are sought for the Editorship of Action in Teacher Education, Vols. 16-18 (1994-1997). Nominations, self-nominations, and vitae should be sent to Mary John O'Hair, Box 41071, Texas Tech University, Lubbock, 79409-1071. Deadline is March 22, 1993.
The 40th World Assembly of the International Council on Education for Teaching will be held at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil July 19-23. A call for papers on the theme "Preparing Teachers to Preserve Life and Overcome Poverty" has been issued. Deadline for submission is April 1, 1993. SRATE Journal, a publication of the Southeastern Regional Association of Teacher Educators has issued a call for manuscripts. The summer issue, which is non-thematic, has a deadline of May 1, 1993. The winter issue is thematic based on the theme of the annual SRATE conference. This issue has a deadline of October 1, 1993. Information is available from Elaine M. McNiece, P.O. The ATE Distinguished Dissertation in Teacher Education award has a nomination deadline of May 1, 1993. The dissertation should have been completed within the previous two years. There is a call for proposals for the Southeastern Regional Association of Teacher Educators meeting in Nashville, TN on October 27-30. The theme is "The Maturing of a Profession," featuring papers on reform, systemic change, events since A Nation at Risk, professionalism, and the knowledge bases. ATE seeks presiders for sessions at the 1994 convention in Atlanta. Sign-up is with Gwen Trotter, Loyola University, Lewis Towers, 820 North Michigan Ave, Chicago 60611 by June 1, 1993.
Proposals for the 1994 ATE convention program are due June 1, 1993. The theme is "Education and Human Resources: Putting the Pieces Together," with strands on integrating human services agencies into teacher preparation programs, networking for the welfare of children, diversity, political arena, and multiple constituencies.

The ATE State Unit Art Competition entries are due February 12, 1994. Original art work (paintings, drawings, original prints, collages, and photographs) should reflect the theme of "Education and Human Resources: Putting the Pieces Together." Items should be taken to the Atlanta convention for judging.

POLAKOW BOOK PARTY MARCH 5
A party celebrating the publication of Valerie Polakow's Lives on the Edge will be held at the Shaman Drum Bookshop, 313 S. State, Ann Arbor. The event will be March 5 from 4-6 p.m.
ROBBINS, JOHNSON, SCHMITT ATTEND AACTE CONVENTION
Jerry Robbins, Robbie Johnson, and Donna Schmitt attended the annual meeting of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) last week.
Robbins appeared on the program as part of a panel of Renaissance Group education deans who presented on "The Regulation of Teacher Education." In addition to attending paper sessions, the EMU delegation attended the annual meeting of TECSCU, a meeting of Renaissance Group deans, NCATE briefing sessions, and business sessions of AACTE. A reception for EMU alums and friends was well attended.

Pat Bonner will soon attend a meeting of the Consumer Assembly in Washington, DC.
EQUIPMENT POLICY STATEMENT ISSUED
The dean's office has issued the following statement concerning EMU equipment assigned to the College of Education:
All university equipment-type property (moveable) assigned to the College of Education is further subsigned to one of the college's departments/accounts. This property, including, but not limited to, video equipment, audio equipment, computer equipment, projection equipment, and other moveable university property, is to be assigned to individual use and/or space location at the discretion of the department/unit manager. Use of this equipment in a location other than that designated by the unit manager may be done only with the written permission of said manager. If the unit manager chooses to allow temporary removal of such equipment from its designated university location to an off-campus location, a liability waiver form must be completed and signed by the individual using the equipment and by the unit manager. Records are to be kept by the individual units showing the dates of removal and of return of the equipment, and the condition of the equipment at both times.
Forms for the implementation of this policy are available in department and comparable offices. This is an attempt to have uniform processes for equipment use throughout the college.
