FOR AND ABOUT STUDENTS
Doctoral student Joan L. Tucker will be honored by a Resolution of commendation at the March 23 meeting of the EMU Board of Regents. Tucker, a member of the first cohort of doctoral students in educational leadership at EMU, earlier won the American Association of School Administrators Forrest E. Conner scholarship.
Shane Finney, current physical education student teacher, has been credited with possibly saving lives and preventing injury to students. While student teaching at Slauson Middle School in Ann Arbor, Finney overheard students talking about building pipe bombs. Finney's report triggered further investigation, whereupon pipe bombs were found in the school and at the home of one of the students.
The MSU College of Education Student Government and the MSU Student Council for Exceptional Children are sponsoring a forum to which EMU students are invited. To be held at 7 p.m. on March 24 at the Erickson Kiva at MSU, the topic will be "teacher competency exams and the economic strain future teachers must face today." Panelists include state Senator Stabenow, state Representative Jondahl, and Carolyn Logan of the MI Department of Education.
