FACULTY NOTES
Alex Carter (with Landra Rezabek of Florida State University) is the author of "The Awareness of Copyright Issues by Preservice Teachers" in the International Journal of Instructional Media (Vol. 20, #1).
Kathleen Quinn recently served as the lead evaluator for a Council for the Education of the Deaf (CED) certification site visit at Southwestern Missouri State University in Springfield.
Helen Ditzhazy has had her paper "Who Eventually Pays" accepted for presentation at the International Critical Thinking Conference at Sonoma (CA) State University in August.
Kathleen Quinn is attending Harvard University's "Critical Issues in Urban Special Education" seminar this week in Cambridge.
PROSPECTIVE TEACHER RECEIVES SCHOLARSHIPS
Kyla Gurganus, a 1993 graduate of Willow Run High School, has received a $500 scholarship from the Ypsilanti Rotary Club. In addition, she is the recipient of EMU's Regent's Plus Scholarship (valued at $10,000 over four years). She plans to become a secondary teacher.
FALL 92 PHONATHON RESULTS; COE ALUMS COME THROUGH IN GRAND WAY
In the Fall 1992 EMU Telethon, COE alums made 47% of all pledges, made 48% of all new pledges, pledged 43% of the total dollars pledged, and contributed 48% of the dollars received. The dollar increase was 58% above that received the preceding year. The net dollar amount to the COE, after expenses, is in excess of $30,000.
NCATE SOLICITS COMMENT ON CONTINUING ACCREDITATION PROCESS
NCATE Unit Accreditation Board (UAB) is soliciting comments on the continuing accreditation process. In general, an institution is to file progress reports each year, have a small-scale site visit five years after the comprehensive visit, and have a comprehensive visit every ten years.
Comments are requested by October 1. Copies of the proposed process are in each department office.
MSU SPONSORS CONFERENCE ON AGING AND LEARNING
July 29 is the date for the MSU conference on "Aging and Learning," to be held in the MSU Union starting at 9. The featured speaker is Thomas Cole of the University of Texas, author of Journey of Life.
GRADUATE SCHOOL AWARDS FOR 93-94
The Graduate School has announced that all COE applicants for sabbaticals received them; that 60% of those from the COE who applied for Research Fellowships received them; and that 40% of those from the COE who applied for spring/summer awards received them. The number of COE applicants for Graduate School Awards declined from 18 to 13 between 1992-93 and 1993-94.
AERA PROPOSALS DUE AUGUST 3
The deadline for proposals for the 1994 annual meeting of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) is August 3. Information and guidelines for submission are in each department office. The 1994 AERA meeting is in New Orleans April 4-8.
CALL FOR PAPERS

AASA CALLS FOR PAPERS FROM PROFESSORS
The American Association of School Administrators invites papers focusing on professor-practitioner school-based research. Proposals must be received by September 8. For information, contact Michael Martin at (303) 556-4857.

MACTE FALL MEETING SET FOR OCT 29
The MI Association of Colleges for Teacher Education will hold its fall meeting on October 29 at the University Club at MSU in East Lansing. The topic will be "Education Workforce 2000." EMU holds an institutional membership in MACTE and any faculty member is eligible to attend MACTE events.
COE FALL FACULTY CONFERENCE SET FOR THURSDAY, AUGUST 26
The annual College of Education Fall Faculty Conference has been set for Thursday, August 26 at the Radisson-on-the-Lake in Ypsilanti. Events start at 8:00 a.m. and include lunch, with adjournment at approximately 3:30 p.m.
