COE COUNCIL MEETING

The College of Education Council met in a called meeting on April 27, with Martha Kinney-Sedgwick, chair, presiding.

Based on a recommendation from the Professional and Affiliated Programs Committee, the Council approved removing the Plastics major from shelved status, reconfiguring it into the Manufacturing Engineering Technology major, and creating new courses MFG 290 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing and Metrology and MFG 470 Integrated Product and Process Design.

The Council reviewed several draft NCATE-related matrices forwarded by the Basic Programs Committee. Because it had recently been determined that the initial preparation program in "English" did not have to go forward to NCATE/NCTE this fall, review of the materials for English was postponed to a later time. The Council accepted in draft form the materials for "Elementary."

The Council returned the draft materials for "Computer Science" and "Geography" to the originating departments with a request for certain revisions. The Council noted that it would be glad to review revised materials at its May 8 meeting.

The Council reviewed draft NCATE-related matrices forwarded by the Advanced Programs Committee. The Council accepted in draft form the materials for "Reading" and "Educational Leadership." However, the materials for "Early Childhood Education" and "Educational Technology" were returned to the originating departments for additional work, with an indication that the Council would be glad to review revised materials at its May 8 meeting.
