NATIONAL RECOGNITION FOR RICE

Dale Rice was one of three persons recognized recently in connection with the Thomas Ehrlich Faculty Award for Service-Learning, presented by the California Campus Compact. The recipient of the award was Ira Harkavy of the University of Pennsylvania. Rice and Barbara Moely of Tulane were identified as finalists.

Rice was recognized in this connection in the May issue of the American Association of Higher Education Bulletin.

FACULTY/STAFF NOTES

Nancy Halmhuber was recently appointed co-chair of the Council for Educational Diagnostic Services national topical conference. The event, to be held in Arlington, VA October 24-26, is for persons involved in educational assessment with students with disabilties-infancy through adult.

Halmhuber is also a member of the Program Advisory Committee of the Council for Exceptional Children. This group has the responsibility for planning the CEC national conference in Seattle next April.

Jerry Robbins is in Pocatello, ID participating in the Spring Conference of The Renaissance Group. Robbins is the vice-chair of the organization.

Gloria Neve has been named to the Central Michigan University Athletic Hall of Fame in the "all sports" category. She will be recognized in ceremonies next November.

Provost Paul Schollaert has notified seven COE faculty members that he has informed President Kirkpatrick of his recommendation for promotion. These promotions will be reported to the Board of Regents on June 25.

ALUMNI NOTES

Meroe Ellen Stanley, age 79, died recently in Iowa. She taught home economics for 21 years in the Northville district.

Richard G. Telfer '48 of Las Vegas is the author of "A New Role for the Nevada Test Site" in the March/April issue of Radwaste Solutions, a publication of the American Nuclear Society. Telfer reports a recent visit to Mesa, AZ to visit with Don Curry, a former EMU faculty member under whom Telfer studied in 1948.

Ron Jaworowski '62, '65, '74, a teacher at Slauson Middle School, was recently honored by the Ann Arbor school board and the PTO Council with a "Celebrating the Excellence" award.

Helen Read '65, lives in Madison, WI, where her husband Charles is the Dean of the College of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Ken Walcott '70, superintendent in Norton Shores, is running in the Republican primary to represent the 91st district.

Frances Morgan Ransom '72, aged 79, died recently in Ann Arbor. She taught in parochial schools, then for some time in the Dexter schools.

Brit Satchwell '85, '96, a teacher at Forsythe Middle School, was recently honored by the Ann Arbor school board and the PTO Council with a "Celebrating the Excellence" award.

STUDENT NOTES

Danielle Fusion was recognized for her volunteer work in the "Talk About 2001" yearbook of the University of Michigan Communicative Disorders Clinic (now the University Center for the Development of Language and Literacy).

SHORT NOTES

The website of the INTIME project, a consortium of five Renaissance Group institutions, including EMU, was visited 115,000 times during a recent 12-month period, as teacher educators and students viewed the nearly 600 K-12 video vignettes there. See www.intime.uni.edu.

COE CREDIT HOURS

As of May 25, COE credit hours for the Spring term were 2.91% ahead of final figures for last Spring. For the fiscal year, including final figures for the Winter term, COE credit hours are 6.16% ahead of final figures for last fiscal year.
