Nancy Halmhuber recently participated in a Council for Exceptional Children/NCATE review panel that reviewed special educator preparation programs for institutions across the country.Michael Bretting was with the EMU baseball team in Nebraska last week, serving in a sports psychologist role.
Vic Chiasson will serve as the instructor for a "Drive Your Business with Golf" session on June 17, offered by Alumni Relations and Continuing Education, primarily for EMU alumni and friends in the Livonia area. Steve Moyer will serve as golf instructor for a "Golf Weekend Getaway" in Gaylord on June 27-29. ALUMNI NOTES
Betty Langford Shaw '53 taught for 26 years in the Norman OK public schools. She is now an adjunct professor at Rose State College, where she received the 2003 "Excellence in Teaching" award during that institution's commencement ceremonies. Shaw teaches watercolor classes at Rose State.
William E. Van Fleet '65 is a businessman in the Cincinnati area. He is the owner of Boot Country, with four stores in the greater Cincinnati area.
Leonard P. Piazzon '65 is vice president of Brinks, Inc. serving the San Jose, CA area.
Newsweek magazine recently identified the "most challenging high schools" in the country. One of those is Grosse Pointe South High School, whose principal is D. Allan Diver '72, '77, '93.
Nancy Brenton '74, '81 has been named assistant superintendent for human resources for the Saline Area schools.
Jesse Stevenson '83 has been named principal of the Houghton school in Saline.

Jefferson Hamlin will defend his dissertation "Teacher Instructions Versus Integrated Learning Systems: A Comparison of Sixth Grade Reading Instruction" on June 4 at 9:30 a.m. in Porter 301 B/C. Helen Ditzhazy is the chair. The public is invited.

The call for nominations for awards from the Association of Teacher Educators has been issued. Nomination deadlines are at various times, depending on the category, in July.
