FACULTY AND STAFF NOTES

Ian Haslam recently presented a paper at the International Conference on Imagination and Education, held at Simon Frazier University in British Columbia.

Sherry Jerome performed in "Summer Dances"at Ann Arbor's Performance Network. The Ann Arbor News called her performance (along with that of local artist Christina Sears Etter) "an exquisite duo."

Last Friday, Peggy Moore-Hart, along with students from EMU, elementary students from the Ypsilanti Public Schools, and numerous parents and community persons, celebrated the culmination of this year's "Writer's Camp," held at Estabrook Elementary School. Special community participants this year included the Ann Arbor News and the Yankee Air Force Museum.

Jim Berry, Shawn Quilter, Alane Starko, Jackie Tracy, and Barb Gorenflo will be in Lansing on Tuesday attending a "No Child Left Behind" conference sponsored by the Michigan Department of Education.

Q.S. Samonte (emeritus) recently served as master of ceremonies for a recital "Harana Sa Tag-Araw" by one of the new graduates of the doctor of piano performance degree program at the University of Michigan. The program was sponsored by the Philippine Studies Group of UM.

STUDENT NOTES

Sally A. Lezotte Covert will defend her dissertation, "Transferring Professional Development to the Classroom" on July 28, 12:30 p.m., in Porter 301 B/C. Charles Achilles is the chairperson. The public is invited.

Starting last Monday, students in Linda Lewis-White's RDNG 310/FETE 401 began working with summer school students in the Lincoln Consolidated School District. Each EMU student will work with three to four Lincoln students in a "real world" teaching setting. Lewis-White will be teaching third graders on Mondays in order to model various literacy strategies.

ALUMNI NOTES

Instead, he has spent 32 years in feed and grain; making custom saddles, gun belts, and holsters; riding his mule; and participating in Civil War and "old west" historical re-enactments.

Leah Grubaugh, age 99, died recently in Chelsea. She received her teaching certificate through The Normal in the 1920's. She began her career in area country schools and then taught in the Dexter schools until her retirement.
