FACULTY AND STAFF NOTES

Thomas Gwaltney recently attended the annual meeting in Chicago of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portugese.

ALUMNI NOTES

John D. Dawson '72, of Franklin, MI, is the president-owner of Onyx Embroidery, Inc. in Troy.

Marilyn Winfield '74, of Pacific Palisades, CA, is the owner of Pathways to Healing. Among the products of this firm are a series of audio tapes "of guided visualization imagery to support your healing through surgery, to reduce stress and promote relaxation, and to help you travel a peaceful journey through life-threatening or terminal illness."

SHORT NOTES

The COE Fall Conference at Eagle Crest on Tuesday, September 2 will begin at 8:00 a.m. with coffee and registration. The general session will begin at 8:30 a.m. Between 8:00 and 8:30 a.m., the EMU Office of Public Information will have a photographer present to make "head shots" of COE faculty members. A new video tape will be shown and Provost Schollaert will speak.

As of the most recent report, COE credit hours for Summer term were 7.06% ahead of final credit hours for last Summer term. COE credit hours for last fiscal year set an all-time high for the COE-an 8.26% increase over the previous year.

K-12 teachers interested in applying for the Fulbright Memorial Fund Teacher Program-an expense-paid three week visit to Japan--should contact mspillman@iie.org prior to December 10.

The College of Arts and Sciences invites the university community to a presentation by Sally K. Frost of Purdue on "Whither Liberal Arts in the 21st Century?" The event will be held on August 15, 1:00-2:00 p.m., Tower Room, McKenny Union.
