For the first half of this fiscal year (through December) development funds for the College of Education total $572,985, an 8% increase over the same time last year, a 20% increase over the same time two years ago, and a 190% increase over the same time five years ago. TEACHING REMAINS STRONG

Among 1,573 EMU FTIAC's (First Time in Any College) full-time students this past fall, 27.6% indicated some form of teaching as their "probable major." These stats included 12.3% elementary, 9.2% secondary, 2.9% special education, 1.4% art or music education, 0.9% physical education, 0.5% "other" education, and 0.4% business education. For all public universities, the portion of comparable students indicating an interest in teaching was 5.1%.

The 1,527 EMU FTIAC's who responded to a question about "probable career" included 13.7% who indicated "elementary teacher or principal," 12.4% who indicated "secondary teacher or principal," 0.3% who indicated "school counselor," and 0.1% who indicated "school principal or superintendent." The EMU percentages are approximately double those for all public four-year colleges.
