Section 5 Collaboration/Partnerships
Eastern
Michigan University's
college of education is engaged in a number of partnerships and collaborations. The Office of Collaborative Education serves
as a clearinghouse that handles outreach to school buildings and districts
in need of faculty expertise or program support.
Outreach, for example,
includes working with the Detroit
Public School District
on the $10 million Comer project to Consociate partnerships with the Farmington
and Ypsilanti School
Districts. These
partnerships provide opportunities for EMU students to interact and participate
in student teaching, research, and best practice.
The
EMU College
of Education has partnered with members of the Renaissance Partnership, an
affiliation of 11 universities committed to improving the preparation of teachers.
EMU has specifically worked on developing teacher work samples as part
of this partnership to better understand the progress and growth of pre-service
teachers.
Community
collaboration and outreach is an ongoing aspect of College activity.
Whether through community service or by working with
members of the Chamber of Commerce the COE has made outreach and collaboration
with K-12 schools and community organizations a component of teaching and
learning.
