(Please submit here any available data that is specific to the program area being reviewed.)

a.      Student perceptions of teacher preparation (including the use of technological tools)

b.      Content (assessment data) State Subject-Area Certification Test Scores, 16 Administrations

c.      Pedagogy [based on 1998 Entry-Level Standards for Michigan Teachers (ELSMT)]

The pedagogy utilized in the Fine Arts program is that of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design. The pedagogy utilized in the Music Education program is that of the National Association of Music.  These standards go beyond the Michigan Teacher Certification Standards. They provide pedagogical content as well as content standards.

d.      Cooperating teacher/university supervisor perceptions of teacher preparation

No Data.

e.      Content-area faculty perceptions of teacher preparation

The Fine Arts and Music faculty members have been able to teach two courses in each of their disciplines. Education students who are in the Arts Group program have an opportunity to develop a good sense of the nature of the arts and to appreciated the multiple avenues that they may take in utilizing art and music to enhance all areas of the curriculum and to motivate learners who have diverse abilities, learning styles, and intelligences.

The faculty members who teach in the Arts Group do not feel that the Arts Group minor offers enough content in any of the areas to consider this a truly interdisciplinary minor. There are not enough concepts developed in any of the areas to connect them in meaningful ways. Students don’t generally take additional electives in the art or music departments.

Some courses (judged less appropriate for elementary teachers) have been removed from required list for the Arts Group minor, but none have been added. The technology courses need to be revised or replaced with a course in Theater Arts. The Arts Group is meeting to redesign the minor in anticipation of the new State guidelines.

f.             Evidence of impact of program graduates on K-12 learning
