Program Standards: Amer. Council on Teaching a For. Lang. (ACTFL)

French Major and Minor for Secondary Certification FA

I.    All French majors and minors must take FRNH 343, 344, 443 and 444.

II.   Additionally, all majors must take FRNH 341 and 342.

III.  Students who participate in the Immersion Program in France engage in all five standards continuously.

IV.  Although students are allowed to use six credits at the 200 level to fulfill their requirement, majors predominantly take their electives at the 400 level.

V.                 Although FRNH 523, Contemporary French Scene, is a graduate level course, undergraduate seniors are allowed to enroll in it.

ADDENDUM

Course descriptions for FLAN 411 and 487.

FLAN 411: Theory and Methods of Modern Language Teaching. The history, theory and techniques of modern language teaching. Not counted in the language area of the degree requirements, nor toward a major in any modern language. Should be taken during the fall semester prior to student teaching.

FLAN 487: Cooperative Education in Foreign Language. Four to six months of full-time employment in a position designed to give practical experience in a field related to the student’s foreign language major. The program ordinarily consists of two work experiences alternating with full-time attendance at the university.
