Professional Development
and Support
EMU has worked to create professional
development opportunities for our recent graduates. These offerings include
the summer institute on improving social studies teaching, a collaboration
with Ann Arbor Public Schools and Washtenaw Intermediate School District.
Each summer, over 50 K-12 teachers have participated in the workshop, which
has been the recipient of Eisenhower professional development grant funding.
The workshop features a K-5 and 6-12 section, and CEUs and EMU graduate credit
have been made available as an incentive for teacher participation. Many EMU
alumni have been made aware of this opportunity and taken this workshop.
The Department
of Geology and Geography has sponsored many new teacher programs, including
the VISIT program described above and the Eisenhower grant program to improve
geography education.
EMU’s Department
of Teacher Education is host to a number of professional development opportunities,
including the Biannual Best Practices conference.
