Exhibit 5.5
Summaries of Faculty Evaluations
Under the master contracts with the faculty unions (AAUP Contract [see Exhibit 5.4] and the Lecturer's Contract [see Exhibit 5.4]), there is no mechanism for maintaining a summary of faculty evaluations. Review of the materials submitted for evaluation at any major decision point (e.g., promotion, tenure) results in a recommendation from the dean to the Provost that is either positive or negative in terms of what the applicant has sought at that point.
Student ratings of instructors and courses are published approximately every two years, are available only in hard copy, and are available in the Library, in the Dean's office, and in each Department Head's office. The most recent edition covers the period Fall 2000 to Summer 2002. A sample entry follows, with some data altered to disguise its association with a particular faculty member:

COE faculty members awarded tenure, effective Fall 2003, were: Martha Baiyee, Julianne O'Brien Pedersen, and Kay Woodiel. Faculty members promoted, effective Fall 2003, were (to professor) Jim Barrott, Peggy Daisey; and (to associate professor) Martha Baiyee, Julianne O'Brien Pedersen, and Kay Woodiel. These promotion and tenure awards represented the entire pool of applicants this year from the COE. All probationary faculty members were reappointed for the year.
