Eastern Michigan University
Institutional Vision
The
conceptual frameworks of the initial and advanced professional
educator programs of Eastern Michigan University are
informed by a variety of sources: vision and mission
statements, purposes and goals, knowledge bases, candidate
proficiencies, and assessment processes and outcomes.
Vision and Mission of the Institution and Unit
Institutional
Vision. A vision for Eastern Michigan University
(EMU) as a whole is outlined in a variety of places,
the most recent version of which is included in the
May
15,
2003 iteration of the institution's "Strategic
Plan" in
the section labeled "institutional values and
guiding
principles."
These
institutional values and guiding principles are ones
much valued by the professional educator programs
of this institution. The values include teaching and
learning, excellence, human dignity and respect, diversity,
scholarship
and intellectual freedom, public engagement, leadership
and participatory decision-making, and integrity. The
guiding principles include accessibility, relevancy,
responsiveness to change, flexibility, quality, collaboration,
accountability,
and affordability.
