Exhibit 1.4
Aggregated Data on Performance of Candidates on
Assessments of a Cohort
of Candidates
Because of the nature of the initial and advanced student body
in the professional education programs of Eastern Michigan University,
virtually nothing like
the traditional definition of a "cohort"--enter together, move through program
together, exit together--exists.
"Artificial" cohorts
can be constructed--e.g.,
all the persons who did student teaching in a given semester,
all the persons recommended for licensure in a given year, all
the persons completing an
administrator preparation program in a given year--but
it must be understood that the people in these "cohorts" entered
our program at different times, moved through the program at
different rates, and, indeed, because of program changes along
the way, may have had appreciably
different preparation.
Data from some of the artificial "cohorts" may be seen in other exhibits. For
example, Exhibit 1.7 provides certain
data on the "cohorts" of
persons who completed our programming in 2000-2001 and in 2001-2002. Exhibit
2.13 gives data for the "cohort" of
persons who took the state certification test during various
quarters.
We do not yet have data systems that will tell us "what
happened to all the people admitted to program X in 1998."
