The two subcommittees which were charged at the last meeting with developing “education plans” for those within the COE, and for those in the COAS and COT, shared their plans:
*The COE subcommittee suggested that, as a start, Jim Berry and Nelson “make the rounds” of COE departmental meetings in October to share the work of the DAAC with faculty.
* The COAS/COT subcommittee is
facilitating a Fall College Collaboration Breakfast on Oct. 22,
involved in educator preparation. Again, the work of the DAAC will be shared there.
To facilitate the meetings mentioned above, Nelson developed and shared a new “DAAC Background” document. It provides a history of the committee, its accomplishments and where the committee may be headed. The document also contained a new version of the committee’s charge, which is: “The purpose of the COE Data and Assessment Advisory Committee is to promote meaningful collection and management of data with a focus on learning.” This document is multi-use. It provides DAAC members with an anchor, and it can be a resource document for the upcoming meetings mentioned above.
Nelson will polish the document based on committee members’ quick input. His editing of the document will include identifying a new name for the DAAC, designed to reflect the fact that educator preparation and certification, while centered in the COE, is a university-wide endeavor. He will also adjust the committee charge to reflect that inclusive spirit.
Nelson also shared with the committee a request from Dr. Robbins for additional specific NCATE-related information. His request focused on “What happened to the class of 1998?” Joan had already begun collecting the requested info and is following through.
A reminder: the DAAC (under whatever name) will meet
regularly during 2003-04 on the third Friday of each month at
