Byrd – guest
Mark
Byrd provided the committee members with an overview of the developing EMU
Data Warehouse. He made these points:
1.
The Warehouse will be esp. useful for departments and program areas.
2.
There is currently an Oracle licensing holdup…it is difficult to secure.
3.
He has developed a list of questions for people with accreditation and program
review needs (will provide).
4.
He has been working on an alumni survey structure.
This will serve many needs at EMU. Has been working
on security issues…wants this to be online and “standard.”
5.
The Data Warehouse will be able to fairly seamlessly merge data from many
sources. He understands that COE will have much “local” data that will eventually
need to be merged into the Warehouse, including data from outside Banner.
6.
His current need is that we supply him with a list of needs (as specific as
possible), definitions used with our own data, sources of data, etc. (This
has sometimes been referred to as the “data dictionary”.)
Mark
entertained questions, which were wide-ranging.
It
was agreed that two subcommittees would work at various tasks:
1.
The local COE database and network will be set up by Brian F., Akosua S.,
and Joan Q. ASAP. This group will also
work on developing the “data dictionary.”
2.
Nelson M., Georgea L. and Jim B. will work on deciding what data sets should
go into the sample database.
