Upcoming dates for the 2009-2010 Porter Lecture Series

The Porter Lecture Series continues on January 21, 2010 with Dr. Kris Gutiérrez. Dr. Gutiérrez is a Professor and Provost Chair in the School of Education at University of Colorado at Boulder and a president-elect of the American Educational Research Association (AERA). Dr. Gutiérrez will lecture from 7:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. in Suite 203, John W. Porter Building. The lecture is FREE of charge, with a book signing and reception to follow. The series continues with Dr. Madhu S. Prakash on March 11, 2010 and Dr. Henry Giroux on April 8, 2010. For more information visit www.emich.edu/coe/chair.
Application deadline for Ph.D. in Educational Studies

The Ph.D. in Educational Studies program is now accepting applications for the second cohort that begins on August 2, 2010 (summer semester). All application materials must be submitted by February, 1, 2010. Applications received after the deadline will be considered on a space available basis. Office of Urban Education to partner with Charles H. Wright Museum

The College of Education's Office of Urban Education and Educational Equity will be signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. The partnership with the Museum, planned to be mutually beneficial, will assist the Museum’s capacity to accomplish its mission and goals. David C. Winters to lead the Department of Special Education

After a nationwide search, Eastern Michigan University is pleased to welcome David C. Winters as the new head of its Department of Special Education. Dr. Winters holds an earned doctorate from Northwestern University in the field of Communication Sciences and Disorders - Learning Disabilities. Most recently he served as the Executive Director of Clinical Affairs at 32° Masonic Learning Centers for Children, Inc. Dr. Winters is the recipient of a number of academic awards including the International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council’s "Outstanding Multisensory Structured Language Education Professional." Dr. Winters will join the department effective July 1st, 2009.
