Ben Thayer, a mathematics teaching major and physics teaching minor, was recently awarded the Tony Sabloski Award for community service at the Wolverine Human Services' 24th Annual Celebration on April 8. In addition to his preparation to become a teacher, Ben has been a member of the EMU football team and heavily involved in community services. His community service activities have included Read to Achieve (Ypsilanti), the YMCA, and St. Joseph Mercy Hospital.

Ms. Tori Klisz, a high school senior from St. Clair Shores, was recently named a 2011 Presidential Scholar at Eastern Michigan University. She begins her studies at EMU in the fall of 2011. Specifically, she will pursue a major in cognitive impairments and an elementary certificate.

Mr. Clayton W. Hall, a doctoral student in Educational Studies (Teacher Education), and Ms. Ramona Meraz Lewis, a doctoral student in Educational Leadership (Leadership & Counseling), received recognition by the Graduate School for exceptional papers in education at the 2011 Graduate Research Fair. Both students presented their papers during the 13th annual Graduate Research Fair and were recognized at the luncheon on Monday, March 21, 2011.
