UPDATED MARCH 12, 2012

The EcoJustice Education concentration and a new Peace and Justice concentration in the Social Foundations MA program will soon be offered as fully online or hybrid programs. Several fully online courses will be offered in Summer 1 and 2, and Fall terms (2012).

EcoJustice Education

EcoJustice Education is an approach that analyzes the cultural roots of social and ecological crises, focusing on increasing destruction of the world’s diverse ecosystems, languages and cultures by the globalizing and ethnocentric forces of Western consumer culture. EcoJustice scholars and educators also study and teach to revitalize the social practices and traditions, languages, and relationships with the land necessary to the sustainability of healthy and just communities. This concentration will be offered online with a short summer residency requirement, and will also continue to be available as an on-campus option. Students can complete the online programs in just over one year. Below is the rollout being planned for this online concentration:

Cultural Studies in Peace and Justice

Cultural Studies in Peace and Justice is an interdisciplinary concentration that draws on a broad range of social theory, history, and philosophy to investigate policies and practices leading to the reproduction of social, economic and political injustices, especially as these are found in schools and other educational situations. This concentration will draw on current work in Critical Cultural Studies and Peace Studies, engaging analyses of gender, race, sexuality, class, disability, and so on as these are articulated in complex and diverse institutional contexts. Students will be urged to arrive at definitions of peace and justice, and to learn how to foster practices that are intended to provide effective counter-narratives and actions for healthy, just and democratic communities.
