Fall portion of 2014-15 Porter Chair Speaker Series wraps-up with Franklin CampbellJones

The 2014-15 John W. Porter Distinguished Chair in Urban Education Speaker Series: "The African American Young Men of Promise Initiative" continued in early fall with the following distinguished guest speakers:

• Gloria Ladson-Billings, faculty in the department of curriculum and instruction at the University of Wisconsin-Madison talked about "Culturally Relevant Pedagogy" on May 8. Ladson-Billings is the author of the critically acclaimed books, The Dreamkeepers: Successful Teachers of African American Children, Crossing over to Canaan: The Journey of New Teachers in Diverse Classrooms, and Beyond the Big House: African American Educators on Teacher Education.
• Randall Lindsey, emeritus professor at California State University spoke at EMU on August 21 on the topic of "Culturally Proficient Practices." He runs an educational consulting practice that deals with issues relating to diversity.
• Franklin CampbellJones, clinical professor in the department of instructional leadership and professional development at Towson University spoke on September 25 on the topic of "Cultural Proficiency: Strategic Approach Toward Appropriating Action For Equity." CampbellJones is also a consultant who assists school districts with applying the tenets of cultural proficiency to their policies and practices.
