Student Teaching With
an Early Childhood Minor
EMU student
teaching requirements/policies must be followed, such as due dates
for applications, prerequisites, etc.
Students
following the Elementary Curriculum complete two student
teaching experiences:
- one
at the elementary level (grades 1 - 3)
- one at the pre-kindergarten level
Students
with a minor in Special Education complete three student
teaching experiences:
- one
at the elementary level (grades 1-3)
- one at the pre-kindergarten level
- a special education placement with children
under age 9.
EFFECTIVE
FALL TERM 1994
1.
A student can enroll in only one student
teaching placement a term.
2.
Elementary Student Teaching
a.
To be completed prior to pre-kindergarten
or special education placement.
b.
Students on Elementary Curriculum with
Early Childhood Minor enroll in EDU 490
8 credit hours: 5 mornings, 3 afternoons
each week for an entire semester. Students
with Special Education major follow Special
Education requirements for the elementary
and special education placements.
c.
Other classes, including CURR 314, EDPS
307, EDPS 318, EDPS 341 and electives
for the ECE minor may be taken in the
open afternoons.
3.
Pre-kindergarten Student Teaching: EDU 495
4 credit hours
a.
To be completed after the
successful completion of an elementary
placement.
b.
Placement is for 5 mornings or 5 afternoons
each week for an entire semester.
c.
CUR 302 and 303 (373/478) and EDPS 341
are prerequisites. Other classes to complete
major/minors or basic requirements may
be taken along with this student teaching.
d.
Special Education majors may complete
the pre-kindergarten placement either
before or after the special education
placement.
