| All candidates for recommendation of certification as
a teacher are required to fulfill a student teaching requirement in
the area of their academic preparation and at the level for which certification
is being sought. Students in elementary, secondary,
and K-12 programs
are required to complete, successfully, twelve (12) semester hours
of student teaching. |

| Students in special
education areas
(emotionally impaired, hearing impaired, mentally impaired,
physically or otherwise health impaired, and visually impaired)
are required to fulfill six (6) semester hours of student
teaching in general education and an additional ten
(10) semester hours of student teaching in their area of specialization. |

| Students desiring certification in bilingual
education are required
to fulfill eight (8) semester hours of student teaching with
English-speaking children and an additional four (4) semester
hours of student teaching in bilingual education. |

| Application Deadlines: Applications
for student teaching may be obtained from the College of Education
Office of Academic Services, 206 Porter Building, and should be
completed and returned to that office in accordance with the following
schedule: |

Fall Student Teaching: previous January 15 |
• |
Summer Student Teaching: previous January 15
(certified teachers only ) |
• |
Winter Student teaching: previous June 15 |

| Applications for student teaching will be accepted after the deadline,
however placement priority is given to those students who file in accordance
with the deadline dates and it is rarely possible to provide placements
for those who apply late. |
