NARRATIVES AND COUNTER NARRATIVES OF LIFE IN URBAN SCHOOLS
Deadline: September 1, 2011
PowerPlay announces a themed issue that will explore current critical issues in urban schools. The educational experiences of students and teachers in urban schools are very diverse, frequently contradicting the spectacle of the crisis in urban education. We are seeking narratives and counter-narratives of urban schools that are struggling amidst overcrowded classrooms, lack of funding, and communities wrought with poverty and violence. However, many urban schools are thriving and have been doing so for generations. It is our intention not only to expose the challenges facing urban youth, teachers, administrators, and communities, but also to illuminate what works, for whom, and for what purpose. We are soliciting papers that explore the complexities of urban education on the ground through empirical/qualitative studies, or theoretical/conceptual papers. Manuscripts are due by September 1, 2011. Authors are requested to adhere to PowerPlay submission guidelines. For additional information contact Clayton Hall at chall47@emich.edu.
PowerPlay welcomes a special guest editor for this issue: Dr. Robert Simmons of Loyola University Maryland. |
