Attached is a request from the College of Technology for eleven new graduate courses that are required by the approved Doctorate of Philosophy in Technology.  Included also is a description of the program that shows the place of each course in the PhD curriculum.

The PhD in Technology program, including curriculum design, was approved by the Michigan Council of Vice-Presidents of Academic Affairs and the EMU Board of Regents in 2001 and by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools in early 2002.  Course proposals were submitted to the input system in late 2001, but were never formally approved.  In late 2002 a committee was formed to review the PhD in Technology and modify it to resolve objections raised during the initial proposal review.  In June 2003 the committee submitted its report to the Provost.  In September 2003 the Provost reasserted approval of the program and revised curriculum.  The attached proposals provide the details for all required courses in the approved curriculum.

These are Tier III Inter-College New Course Proposals, with a 60-calendar-day deadline for responses.  Please review the enclosed new course proposals and report the action you recommend on the enclosed form by 15 January 2004.  Please note that the lack of response by that date will signify a recommendation to approve the proposal.   If you have any questions, need clarification, or would like a representative to appear before your Council to discuss the proposals, please call Dr. David Boggs, Program Director (487-2326), Dr. Carol Haddad, Interdisciplinary Technology (487-1161), or Bill Miller, Director of Course and Program Development (487-5849).
