I. Rationale - Program Change
Changes have to be made in the Business Service & Technology (BST) program so that the students can equally select courses to meet the new reconfiguration requirements for BST now known and meeting the new requirement for Business, Management, Marketing and Technology (BMMT). Requirements suggested by the State of Michigan will include approximately 12 hours in each of the following areas: General Business, Management, Marketing, and Technology to be recommended for certification.
II. Description of Current Program
The Business Services and Technology education major leads to a Michigan Department of Education Secondary Provisional Certificate and, upon meeting these requirements according to the current Michigan State Plan, a vocational endorsement will be issued. The program prepares prospective teachers in the areas of information processing and management, administrative services, accounting and computing and basic business such as economics, consumer economics, business law, business management, computer literacy and introduction to business. This major can be completed only in conjunction with the bachelor of business education curriculum. Successful completion of this course of studies, in the context of other program requirements, qualifies the student for recommendation for certification for the Michigan Department of Education Secondary Provisional Certificate endorsed in business education, certification code GX, and, with appropriate work experience, certification code Vocational Business(VB) or Vocational Marketing(VM).The new certification code for Business will be Business, Management, Marketing and Technology (GQ), Vocational Business(VB) will remain as the code for Vocational endorsement. To receive the BMMT (GQ) Certification, the student must meet requirements for (VB) or (VM). A BMMT Certificate (GQ) will not be issued without the VB or VM endorsement.
