Dr. Bradley has a working knowledge of the K-12 curriculum framework and benchmarks.  He has served on the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Education committees to develop programs to meet those benchmarks

 

Dr. Bradley has presented rock and mineral modules at the Pinckney School District.  Specifically at Farley and Navigator Elementary Schools, and at Pinckney High School

Clark

Ph.D. Geology; University of Manitoba

[Petrologist, Mineralogy]

Dr. Clark has presented 4 talks at scientific conferences; 4 talks at a special colloquium or as an invited lecturer.  She has served as session chair at two scientific conferences.  She has published a paper on crystal chemistry, and has submitted one potential new mineral for approval by the International Mineralogical Association's Commission on New Minerals and Mineral Names.  She has recently submitted a paper for publication on the subject of mineral education.

Dr. Clark has a working knowledge of the K-12 curriculum framework and the MEAP test.

 

Dr. Clark is currently developing instructional modules for secondary education utilizing the American Mineralogist Crystal Structure Data base and ancillary visualization software.

Gustavson

Dr. Gustavson has published one scientific paper; presented his research at three professional meetings; and invited to present his research at three midwestern universities.

Dr. Kasenow has published a text book on hydrogeology, and a monograph and computer program on the subject of grain-size analysis.  He has presented his work at one scientific conference, and has published 4 paper in professional journals on aquifer analysis.

Dr. Kasenow has in-depth knowledge in regard to the K-12 curriculum framework (as he is the coordinator of this report).  He has a working knowledge of the MEAP test.

Dr. Kasenow is a certified professional geologist (American Institute of Professional Geologist); and a Certified Ground Water Professional (National Ground Water Association).

Dr. Kasenow has developed a environmental course for elementary teachers; and is the curriculum adviser for secondary education students.

Dr. LoDuca has published two scientific papers in professional journals and has presented at five professional meetings.  He serves as the technical director for the Journal of Paleontology, and chaired a session at a professional meeting.

Has knowledge of the K-12 curriculum and the MEAP test to the extent that he put this knowledge to work in revising the Earth Science Secondary Teaching program at EMU, of which this document reports.

 

Dr. LoDuca has presented two activities on using the scientific method in paleontology at Lincoln Elementary School.

Ms. Mobley is pursing an additional MS in Historic Preservation; and has enhanced her computer skills at workshops presented by EMU

Ms. Mobley's knowledge is extensive in regard to this category.  She has taught three different methods courses within this Department that emphasized the curriculum framework and the MEAP test.

 

Ms. Mobley has published a lab manual in regard to elementary education labs.  She has been invited, through education grants, to present instructional workshops at local school systems.

Dr. Ojala has presented his research seven times at professional meetings.  He has also developed an on-line weather course at EMU.

Dr. Ojala was awarded "The Outstanding Teacher Award" from the Association of American Geographers; the EMU Distinguished Faculty Teaching Award; and the "National Weather Service Special Service Award

Advises secondary education earth science students.

Dr. Poli has authored or co-authored five scientific papers on past changes in ocean circulation and climatic change.  She is also an EMU Academic Service Learning Fellow.

Dr, Raphael is continuing research on coastal erosion and natural hazards.  He is the editor of the Geographical Bulletin; and he has presented a paper at the Michigan Academy of Science, Arts and Letters.

Dr. Raphael has reviewed MEAP tests and has working knowledge of the K-12 curriculum.

Dr. Raphael was awarded the "Outstanding Contributor Award" and "The Ten Year Service Award from the Geographic Honor Society.

Dr. Raphael worked with the Ypsilanti Schools Science Director and the College of Education at EMU in the development of a weather and climate course for elementary educators.

Dr. Rutherford was awarded the Biological Sciences Initiative in 2002, and is currently developing hands on laboratory assignments, which include both PCs and Macintosh computer work, for the earth science methods course.

Dr. Rutherford is a new faculty member hired specifically for Earth Science Education.  She is currently learning about the State of Michigan’s Standards.
