Earth-Space Science Section 9 Methods for Instruction
Describe how candidates are prepared to teach in the specific content area.
In addition to completing the content requirements for a major in Earth/Space Science, each student must also complete ESSC 347, Teaching Earth Science and Physical Geography. This course emphasizes inquiry teaching, learning strategies and procedures used in secondary school teaching. Students are provided with the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the newer science curricula; visit secondary school classrooms; present classroom demonstrations and conduct laboratory work. They also learn to use modern teaching aids, including the computer, in classroom teaching; and develop means of evaluating cognitive and affective learning.
