9. List all departmental programs for which this course is Required or a Restricted Elective.
SPGN 481 is
required in all program areas in the Department of Special Education where
initial special education endorsement is sought. This includes undergraduate programs in
Cognitive Impairment, Emotional Impairment, Hearing Impairment, Physical and
Other Health Impairment, and Visual Impairment.
It also includes graduate programs in Learning Disabilities,
Speech/Language Pathology, and the Special Education Master’s Degree with
Teacher Certification (SEM-T) program.
10. Is
this course required by programs in other departments? Yes
No X
11. If
yes, do the affected departments support this change? Yes No
If yes, attach letters of support. If no, attach letters from the affected department explaining the lack of support, if available.
12. Will the proposed revision increase/decrease
credit hours in any program? Yes No X
If yes,
list the programs and provide an explanation for the increase/decrease, along
with a copy of the revised program that includes the new credit hour total.
The proposed credit hour change for SPGN
481 represents a combination of two required courses: SPGN 481 (2 credit hours) and EMDT 345 (1
credit hour). The combination of these
two courses represents a decrease of one credit hour from Teacher Education
requirements for Special Education majors, and an increase of 1 credit hour for Special Education requirements for their
program majors. In effect, there is no
increase in credit hours. The credit
hours are simply realigned within the student’s program.
