Delores Soderquist Brehm Endowed Scholarship in Special Education

  • Recipient must be admitted to the Department of Special Education’s professional preparation program
  • Students from each of the academic programs within the department are eligible to apply. They include: cognitive impairment, emotional impairment, hearing impairment, learning disabilities, physical and other health impairment, visual impairment, and speech/language pathology
  • Recipient should exemplify outstanding pre-professional skills in the field of special education coupled with a commitment to serve children and adolescents with special needs, as determined by the Special Education Scholarship Committee
  • Recipient must have a minimum GPA of 3.2, but the Special Education Scholarship Committee could override in special circumstances

Jill Robinson Donnellan Endowed Scholarship

  • student with a declared major in emotional impairment
  • at least a 3.0 grade point average
  • awarded at the discretion of the Department of Special Education
  • One or two representatives as designated by R. Donnellan may be assigned to work with Department's Scholarship Committee in determining the awardee(s) of this scholarship.

Charles M. and Lucy A. Elliott Endowed Scholarship

  • student who is an undergraduate special education major
  • award is based on academic record and participation in departmental activities.

Bessie Fox Endowed Scholarship

  • student who is a special education major.

Marylyn E. Lake Endowed Scholarship

  • Recipient must be enrolled in the Special Education program and be an undergraduate or graduate student
  • Preference given to students concentrating in the area of mental impairment.
  • B or better GPA
  • Demonstrated commitment to the field, evidenced by an essay about why he/she has chosen this professional area.
  • Involvement in campus or community activities as evidenced by a letter of recommendation support from an individual familiar with the applicant's academic work and/or campus/community activities
James G. Lowery Endowed Scholarship
  • student who is a senior in the area of speech and language impaired
  • at least a 3.0 grade point average
  • a grade of B+ or better in SPSI 343 (Clinical Practice in Speech Pathology)
  • National Student Speech-Language and Hearing Association and/or other professional activities
  • submits three references in writing, and who submits a written paragraph explaining how the scholarship would be used in awarded

Michigan Braille Transcribing Fund Undergraduate Expendable Scholarship

  • Recipients must be full-time students admitted into the Department of Special Education's professional preparation program in visual impairment
  • Scholarship will be awarded based on academic performance, related vocational experience, related volunteer experience and related experience with Braille
  • Recipient must be enrolled in a Braille course at the time of the award

Martha Horton Ramsay Endowed Scholarship

  • awarded according to the discretion of the Department of Special Education.
Julia Senstius Endowed Scholarship
  • awarded to disabled students enrolled in the special education department, laboratory enhancement;
  • professional development opportunities for students (conference, seminar, workshop); equipment. Purchase teaching material, including video tapes and other media
  • Faculty research involving student participants.

May Tuan Wu Ting Memorial Endowed Scholarship

  • a graduate student from China or Taiwan
  • at least a 2.5 undergraduate grade point average
  • at least a 3.0 graduate grade point average
  • duration of the scholarship is not to exceed two years.
