Endowed Scholarships Administered by the Department of Teacher Education

  • Application Process
    • Beginning January 15th each year, application forms, instructions, and additional information for the scholarships listed below may be obtained from:

    • Applications typically are due in March.
    • An online application form is available in PDF format, for filling out on your computer and then printing. (This form cannot be saved in the filled out state.) You can also print this form and fill it out on a typewriter or by hand
    • Each applicant must include with the completed application form a one-page essay discussing why the applicant should be selected to receive a Teacher Education scholarship.
    • The applicant must include her/his name, student number, grade level, grade point average, academic major, and the name(s) of the particular scholarship(s) for which he/she is applying.
    • Each applicant must be currently enrolled and have a grade point average of at least 3.0 (unless otherwise noted below).

Bess Browne Endowed Scholarship

  • a full-time undergraduate who has financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid

Kenneth H. Cleeton Endowed Scholarship

  • a full-time undergraduate with demonstrated leadership qualities

Helen and Tarik Doaud Endowed Scholarship

  • Wayne County resident.
  • Enrolled at EMU with the intention of pursuing a degree and certification in teaching. This can be enrollment in K-12 education program.  b) having declared education as a major (to allow freshmen and sophomores to be eligible). c) enrollment in a teacher certification program after having completed a baccalaureate degree.
  • Student must be in good academic standing.
  • Preference may be given to students who need to work at least part-time to pay for their education or for whom it would be considered a financial burden to pursue undergraduate education certification.
  • Preference will be given to Al Long Ford employees and their family members, i.e., children, grandchildren. (This can be done via a letter verifying the relationship from Al Long Ford).

Wilma Gardner Elliot Endowed Scholarship

  • for an undergraduate female education major whose father is deceased.
  • preference is given to Lansing High School Graduates majoring in English or foreign language

Eudora Estabrook Endowed Scholarship

  • is for a prospective elementary education who has demonstrated a financial need as determined by the College of Education.
Bernice Louise Farley Endowed Scholarship
  • an undergraduate early education major
  • at least a 2.5 grade point average
Anita L. Fielder Endowed Scholarship
  • is for a junior or senior student preparing to be an early childhood education teacher
  • who shows leadership and scholarly potential
  • at least a 3.0 grade point average
  • Consideration of need may be a determining factor between equally qualified candidates

Mable White Holmes Uniqueness Award

  • a freshman who is currently enrolled full time, with an interest in teaching
  • at least a 2.5 grade point average

Carl & Ellen Hood Endowed Scholarship

  • worthy and needy students who give promise of being leaders in the field of teaching
  • Scholarship while important shall be secondary to high purpose and dedication to the service of children

Gail Ardis Hughes Elementary Education Endowed Scholarship (formerly the Elementary Education Endowed Scholarship)

  • an undergraduate student who is enrolled full-time
  • student who is preparing to become an early elementary teacher, preference for those focusing on grades 1-3 with emphasis on reading and writing skills
  • student must be in good academic standing
  • selection criteria may include the student's ability with young children and promise of leadership as discerned through classwork

Adella R. Jackson Endowed Scholarship

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Some leadership ability
  • Financial need may be a factor

Harold Boyne Lamport Endowed Scholarship

  • a full-time undergraduate student who plans to teach

Margaret R. Esche Lee Endowed Scholarship

  • education majors studying either (1st) upper elementary education or (2nd) music
  • must have obtained junior class standing
  • must have financial need as determined by the College of Education
  • a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater

Lettie Augustine Marsh Memorial Scholarship

Dr. Everett L Marshall Endowed Scholarship

  • Junior, Senior or Graduate student enrolled in Teacher Education at EMU
  • Must have 3.0 GPA or greater
  • Financial need is not a consideration
  • If 2 or more students of equal academic standing qualify, the student with the greatest financial need will receive the award

L.M. Findley – Wade McCree Endowed Scholarship

  • Funds students in the Wade McCree Endowed Scholarship program
  • preference given to a male student majoring in Education
Mary Jane and Ed McEachern Endowed Scholarship
  • an Ypsilanti High School graduate who is a junior or senior, currently enrolled in a Teacher Preparation Program in the College of Education
  • at least a 2.7 overall grade point average
  • at least a 3.0 grade point average in the Teacher Preparation Program in the College of Education
Kenneth and Hazel Olsen Endowed Scholarship
  • is for a freshman in elementray education who is from the Fowlerville or Howell areas or living in Livingston County.
  • must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average which may be waived if all other criteria are met.
  • if there are no qualified candidates in elementary education, the Music Department may select a student.
Louisa Palmer Memorial Endowed Scholarship
  • a student enrolled in the elementary teacher education program
  • preference given to a student who intends to teach kindergarten

Albert A. Riddering Endowed Scholarship

  • a full-time undergraduate student
  • student who earned at least 25 credit hours at Eastern Michigan University
  • who plans a career in the teaching profession
  • must have financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid
Mario P. Salinas Endowed Scholarship
  • is given to a student of Hispanic descent.
  • a student being admitted to a Teacher Preparation Program in the College of Education
  • financial need may be a factor
  • preference is given to a student pursuing an elementary education degree.

Henry A. and Flora S. Tape Memorial Endowed Scholarship

  • a student who shows promise as a teacher
  • preference given to a graduate of either the Lincoln Consolidated or Milan Public schools

Otis Williams and Friends Memorial Endowed Scholarship

  • an undergraduate student, preferably a minority student
  • preference given, in order, to a student who is Black, Native American, Hispanic

Margaret E. Wise #1 Endowed Scholarship

  • preference given to an early elementary curriculum student
