John Lupinacci, M.A. - Doctoral Candidate in Urban Education, Eastern Michigan University |
John Lupinacci is a doctoral candidate in the Urban Education program at Eastern Michigan University, where he is also adjunct faculty and teaches pre-service teachers using an EcoJustice approach. He has taught at the secondary level in Detroit and is co-author of the book EcoJustice Education: Toward Diverse, Democratic, and Sustainable Communities. His experience as a high school math and science teacher, an outdoor environmental educator, and a community activist all contribute to examining the relationships between schools and the reproduction of the cultural roots of unjust social suffering and environmental degradation. |

Mary F. Spence, Ph.D. - School Psychologist, Washtenaw Intermediate School District, Ann Arbor, MI |
Mary Spence has worked in the field of psychology for over 25 years in mental health, correctional and most recently school settings, with a Ph.D. in Clinical and Educational Psychology from Wayne State University. Jen Eastridge, B.F.A. - artist, educator and activist |
Jen Eastridge has worked in both, formal and informal educational settings as a teacher, a parent involvement community partner, an elementary artist-in-residence and neighborhood "creative playtime" coordinator. Coming from generations of educators, Eastridge has always felt energized and connected while working in a hands-on learning environment. Through her work, she strives to develop innovative, artistic experiences for young people that integrate creativity, nature, social activism and awareness. Eastridge holds a BFA in Art History & Museum Studies from the Art Academy of Cincinnati. |

Scott Whitehouse, M.A. - Executive Director of HOPE Community Center |
Scott Whitehouse earned his M.A. from EMU in Social Foundations in 2005. His principal interests during his studies were Eco-Justice Education and Sustainability. Susan Santone a part-time lecturer in the Department of Teacher Education, and is also the Executive Director of Creative Change Educational Solutions, a nonprofit organization focused on sustainability education. After earning certifications in social studies, music, and English as a Second Language, she pursued an interdisciplinary Master’s degree from the School for International Training with a focus on multicultural- and sustainability education and organizational management. |

Clara Thiry lives and works in Milan, Michigan. Tom Hoetger earned his MA in Social Foundations from Eastern Michigan University, currently teaches social studies in the Detroit Public Schools at Western International High School, and is a founding member of the Michigan chapter of the National Association for Multicultural Education (Michigan-NAME). Tom teaches from a critical perspective that focuses on civic literacy that strives to develop a sense of student and community empowerment; a belief that their voices are valued and that they could have an impact on changing their community. |
