Department of Special Education
Undergraduate Programs
Special Education students must complete a major of at least 36 hours, including the department's core courses listed in the online catalog, and a major concentration chosen from the department's six programs:
  • Emotionally Impaired (EI)
  • Hearing Impaired (HI)
  • Cognitively Impaired (CI)
  • Physical and Otherwise Health Impaired (PoHI)
  • Speech and Language Impaired (SLI)
  • Visually Impaired (VI)

Students must complete all courses specified in their major concentration in addition to meeting the basic studies requirements and other College of Education requirements.

The Michigan Department of Education requires all teachers to earn a teaching certificate before they can obtain a special education endorsement.

In order to do this, students must select elementary or secondary certification and elementary or secondary endorsement.
