Valid for up to three (3) years, expires June 30.
Complete ONE of the following:
- Nine (9) credit hours of planned program since earning initial Provisional Certificate.
- Master's degree in area appropriate to K-12 teaching earned at any time.

Forms & Resources
All teachers must eventually advance from the Provisional Certificate to the Professional Education Certificate. A teacher with an expiring Provisional who doesn't qualify for a Professional can apply for a First Provisional Renewal (valid for up to 3 years) if ONE of the following is complete:
- Six (6) semester hours in a planned course of study since the issue date of the initial Provisional AND within the three (3) years preceding application.
- 180 State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs) since the issue date of the initial Provisional AND within the three (3) years preceding application.
- Combination of semester credit hours and SCECHs (30 SCECHs is equal to one (1) semester hour) since the issue date of the initial Provisional AND within the three (3) years preceding application.
Important Note: A master's degree earned prior to issue date of initial Provisional certificate can no longer be used to renew a Provisional Certificate.
